I am claiming my fiance as a dependent. She is currently in college and has loans taken out in her name. She lives with me and has for a year and a half and is a full time college student with an unpaid internship. I was wondering if there was any way of claiming any of her school loans or anything having to do with her being in college on my tax return because she is my dependent. Thanks![View Answers]

I am depressed because I have missed all things these life? Question Details: i turned 22 as of a recently and my weekends pretty much consist of eating chinese, pizza takeout, etc. I really have no friends to be honest. I never had a gf in hs and in college. I am a student at a jr college and there is no social environment....after class people don't care to make friends...and a lot of times a study buddy is not necessary because the teacher provides you all the sources you need...and even if you do have a study buddy they aren't looking to make friends...they just end up being study friends not really friends though..... i was anti social in hs and it sucks because i am stuck ina situation where the college is a jr college and people aren't looking for friends i wish i lived in a dorm......i can't get a cosigner for ana partment i will have to work full time, show a check and then QUIT when school starts so it shows i make enough for the rent i did happen to get LOAN for college thou[View Answers]

Can I afford my rent and if so how?0rikita2012-11-06 06:29:00
I am a college student and I don't really want a roommate but I am scared that I am cutting it close when it comes to pay my rent and bills on time.. I make approx. $1,200 a month and go to college full-time. I have a loan for $2,500 in the fall and $2,500 in the spring which I can put towards my rent. My expenses each month are around $700 on average (before rent) which means I will be able to save around $400-500 a month. Do you think I can do it? What are your calculations? By the way, I can't have a roommate because I have a studio and I like living alone. Thank you in advance![View Answers]
I'm getting a pell grant for college, but I also want to take out a student loan?0Naomi-Eliana2012-11-06 05:03:59
I'm considering doing this because I need to get settled in financially. I don't want to be worried about living expenses while going to school. I am also very committed to finishing school so that won't be a problem. I'm thinking the most I'll want is anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000. My Pell Grant is basically covering my entire school year since I'm in community college and it's not very expensive, but I am uncertain if the student loan will goo directly to my checking account or how does that work? I would like to use the money on whatever I like, is that possible?[View Answers]

Student loan?0Melthea2012-11-06 03:07:58
I am enrolled in College for my Masters. Even though my student loan is deferred I still pay towards the interest monthly on the student loan that I took out when I was obtaining my Bachelors. How does the student loan and interest paid work? do I claim this on my income tax? I recieved a form from the school saying something about paying 7,769...but that wasnt out of pocket..everything is through student loan to I still use this form....do I also claim the interest I have paid thus far? Does this mean I will get money back or owe ?[View Answers]
Can I get a Student loan for a year when Im 18?0hubbabubba2012-11-06 02:38:30
I need a student loan for around 12,000 probably more, for only a year. I cannot start to really pay this off untill I have graduated college in 4 years. Will my interest multiply over these 4 years or will it start once I graduate and try to pay it back? Also, where can I find a loan like this without needing a cosigner?[View Answers]

New York State College Tuition Payments?0HumanBodyIdiot2012-11-06 00:05:54
I live in and have been going to a New York college. The school works on a semester basis - three months to each semester. I paid my college tuition monthly (no loans, no grants - I did not qualify for any student loans or grants). Each month I gave them them a check for that month's tuition. Unfortunately, I had to drop out at the end of the second month (didn't attend at all the third month/final month of that semester). I informed them that I was withdrawing from the school with a written letter and verbally. A month later, they sent me a letter stating I owned them money - which works out to be the one month that I didn't attend college. My question is this: Since I was paying monthly out of my own pocket, and I withdrew before that last month started, am I financially obligated to pay for a month I wasn't there?[View Answers]

Should I feel guilty about not helping helping my mom out financially?0Javal2012-11-05 23:32:13
My mom earns about 25,000 per year from her job, and my dad recently stopped paying my mom child support (15,000 per year) because my twin brother and I recently turned 18 years old. I am putting myself through college right now, I am literally working almost every moment i'm not in class to keep my head above water. I've become pretty thrifty by staying on a very specific budget for food, rent, etc.. and keeping track of all my finances. Right now, I have almost $2,500 saved up, and my mom receives my bank statements in the mail back home so she knows this too. I truly believe my mom's spending habits haven't changed since my dad stopped paying her child support and she called me today talking about how she is so broke. I have trouble feeling sorry for her because she was never really a mother to me growing up, she is an alcoholic, and she does spend money on alcohol which should be going toward far more important things. I've basically been taking care of myself since I was 14 and could work legally. My mom never calls me when I'm in college to just say "Hi, how are you?" Whenevr she calls me, it's almost always complaining about something, usually about how broke she is. She really frustrates me because I know she could get a better job if she put effort into it, but she says "i don't like change", she's not the type of person to stick to a budget, and when she called me today, she didn't straight out ask me for money, but she did say, "So I see in your bank account statment you have $2,500 in your account, I only have $250.00 in my account, I'm REALLY broke." Geez, what the hell am I suppise to say to that? I'm a struggling college student with accumulating student loan debt and i'm just now barely beginning to build a little cushion in my bank account and she puts a guilt trip on me. Am I going to deal with this for the rest of my life?? I'm not going to give her money because she is the type of person who would NEVER pay you back if you loaned her money, and I have rent going through next week. I suppose I COULD give her like $100.00 or $200.00, but then what is she starts to get comfortable asking me for money? This is not the kind of relationship I want with my mom. Right now, I really just feel like I want nothing to do with her because she's not helping me in any sense, she's not supportive, she never really encouraged me to go to college in the first place, I put myself here so I can give my future kids a better life than I had one day. Should I feel guilty?[View Answers]

Is it okay to not have clue what to do after college?0Sallie2012-11-05 19:32:39
I just graduated from University. I have a BA degree. I want to go to law school eventually but for right now I have to save up and study for the LSAT. My mom has been stressin me about finding a job. She wants too many darn specifics. I told her that I do not care what kind of job I get. I just need a way to pay off my student loans. I told her that I want to do research and she was like what kind of research. I told her that I do not care. I just like to research things. I told her what I liked but I have a feeling that she wants me to do something that she wants me to do. I really don't know what I want to do. I spent five years in school busting my hump to graduate and now all I want to do is go back to school asap.[View Answers]

Can A Prospective College Student Apply For A Federal Grant To Earn A Degree?0Destinie2012-11-05 19:08:43
I am a student attending junior college and will be transfering to University in Spring 2009. I'm looking into oppurtunities and options that will possibly help pay for college when I do. Is it possible to apply for federal grants to attend University to earn a degree? I'm well aware applying for financial aide and school loans within the college system, but is it possible to obtain federal grants apart from school? How does one go about doing it? What does "writing" a grant involve? How lengthy is the actual document? Can anyone please provide information? Thank you![View Answers]
