Pell Grant: Do I have to enroll in a degree program or can I take community college classes of my choice?1LaNoria2012-10-11 04:16:01
Hello , MedlinePlus I was approved for a Pell Grant ( EFC is 0) . I'm in California . I have the intention to take a short online course at a community college , just to hone my skills for my event planning company that I am working . I'd like to take some certification courses Event Management , Event Marketing , who start their business courses , etc MedlinePlus MedlinePlus These are all certification courses , but are offered as online courses within the university community ( Orange Coast College ) . Registration is the same as any person who is signing up to register for a degree program . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Does the Pell Grant cover these classes , or do I have to specifically enrolled in a degree program ? Ideally , I would get only the skills and training related to the field I will not go through the whole degree program ( maybe later , but not now ) . I just need to make sure the Pell Grant / Student Loans will pay for it . Thanks MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Also, if you are going to pay for it , are there any other recommended community colleges that offer this type of online training , with the exception of Orange Coast College ? Starting a new business , Event / Wedding Coordination / Management .. marketing your business , etc. .. I do not want to go to college met online . I would prefer a community college that offers online classes . Thank you !

Is it easy to enroll into a community college if your broke and have a GED?0myde2012-11-05 18:24:55
Is there like any tests I would need to take? Is it a long process? I have no money and my parents are broke. Is the process or getting a student loan long and complicated? I know nothing about college! or the registration! Im turning 17 in one month and I dropped out last school year in 9th grade because of social anxiety. I want to take GED classes and get my GED and then enroll into a community college. I'm interested in automotive courses.
Pell Grant Question...two classes left?2♥rebel•stupidity=kathy♥2012-11-05 02:55:02
Does anyone know how the Pell Grant ? I had reached my financial aid loan limits earlier this year (mainly because I have an AA degree at a different university and was now working on my BA ) . I'm down to my last two classes before finishing my studies and they are running around $ 1,805 each. Unfortunately I can not afford to pay this amount in cash up front , you can not qualify for a personal loan , and have no other family that is financially stable enough to help me . Do you know would be able to get a Pell grant to cover these last two classes ?
Best student loan for me while taking community college classes?0spiderman2012-10-27 11:06:30
I've been going to college for 4 years ( part-time because I have to work ) . But now I'm getting into more advanced classes in graphic design that need to buy more software and a new computer to use the software properly . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I have tried in the past to get a loan or financial aid to help pay for things at school , but I could not because he was under 25 and needed parental consent . I ran away from home because my father was a very abusive man and lived with a friend for several years until I could live on my own . When I tried to apply for financial aid , they said they needed the signature of a parent and I said, " You can not get that " was not good enough . When I said that I ran away , I asked if he had legal proof of the same (which is legal proof that escaped ? ) . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus But nonetheless, I knew nothing of the university , loans or anything else because I never had anyone help me on these issues . Now I have 25 years and try to get a school loan , but it says I am not eligible for loans because I've been going to school for a long time at the community college . I have only to take a few more years! I'm part-time ! And nobody leaves school in four years in the Graphic Design program . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus So is there somewhere else I can go to college , and Pasadena City? Or will I get the same thing anywhere else if I try to get a student loan ? I can not really afford a private loan because I have one of those and maxed out three credit cards ( just to get through school and have a roof over my head ) .
Dropped out of college, they want me to pay back my Pell Grant?0Carlie2012-09-01 17:01:03
Dropped out of college because he could not afford to make a living and bury myself in debt at the same time , while focusing only in my courses . I was awarded a Pell Grant to the tune of about $ 4,000 . I got half a semester , I was about to end . The other half was never issued at all. I set the time , but " not right" , as claimed . Now I keep getting mail telling me I have to pay a percentage of the grant . I put $ 400 of my own money down to secure a payment plan before this, but it is a factor in how much you want them back . My question is , what if you do not pay ? I feel that I have used the amount given to capacity , they just want to leech money from me somehow. It is a community college that may affect my credit , and / or garnish my wages ? Or do I have to pay this amount before he can go back to school ? Basically , measures can be taken against me if I refuse to pay ? Also, I'm returning three other loans of a different universities and a lot of other accounts. I simply can not afford another re - payment , is there any way to solve this?
I'm getting a pell grant for college, but I also want to take out a student loan?0Naomi-Eliana2012-11-06 05:03:59
I'm considering doing this because I need to get settled in financially. I don't want to be worried about living expenses while going to school. I am also very committed to finishing school so that won't be a problem. I'm thinking the most I'll want is anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000. My Pell Grant is basically covering my entire school year since I'm in community college and it's not very expensive, but I am uncertain if the student loan will goo directly to my checking account or how does that work? I would like to use the money on whatever I like, is that possible?
Pell Grant Cuts Have Excluded Me from College?0Aliyah2012-11-02 02:19:25
I just learned the beginning of July that my Pell Grants were cut. I'm shocked. I was only 4 classes shy of graduating with a BA degree. I had changed majors some time ago from voice studies to creative writing because of of asthma, and as a non-traditional student I only took courses part time because I was the sole care provider for my father (a disabled american veteran) and my mother -both of whose health was declining and who I lost in 2008, tragically just 6 months apart. As a single mother whose father left us to remarry for his 4th time, I was also there to raise my son. All this while trying to work. I dont know what their excuse is for this. It hurts the poor and middle class who were struggling to make a better life for themselves through education. I have exhausted my loans and I will not pile on more debt with private loans-- I was late applying for my PHEEAA grant (not sure how I missed the deadline on that), and I didnt apply for Scholarships because I thought I had enough aid from other sources. (I have a 3.5 gpa). Additionally, my college cant afford me an SEOG grant because of funding cuts. How am I supposed to go to college on a limited income - it will take me 1,100 dollars out of pocket PER CLASS to graduate. I just cant do it even on a payment plan -- I cant manage 265 dollars a month to pay my college. Please tell me someone has some ideas/suggestions.
Got my Pell Grant, now where do I go? Trouble finding a college!?0Melody Aheto2012-10-13 15:22:58
I was approved for a Pell Grant , but now I'm lost as to where I go and what I do . This is my story . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I am working to start my own event planning business . I really do not want to go to a degree program , I really prefer to take some business classes , perhaps a bit of marketing , and definitely an event management course certification . I work full time , so you will have to take courses online . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I'm having trouble finding a school ! I'm in northern California ( Stockton ) . To save money and be approved for the grant BOG , I went to a community college. This school was in Southern California and had really great online courses I wanted to take. They ended by saying that he had yet to come to take the placement test . Ugh ! I can not even get into my own community college because I take the train to work and I am gone from 4:00 a.m. every day until 19:00 . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus So ... I'm looking for a college that offers online courses to what I'm looking for, not required to be registered , and is also affordable and accept Pell grants and financial aid. Can someone please help ? I added about 6 or 7 my FAFSA universities and none of them have been resolved . UGH ! MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I just want to take the ball rolling before we give up this idea and go into business without adequate preparation and skills .... I'm so frustrated . Please help .. And please do not riddle me with spam . I do not need a loan , I am already approved for . Thank you !

I realize that private loans are usually not the best idea for the community college , but I actually would help consolidate and reduce the interest rate on the debt that I have time I go to school .

Will many community banks refuse to take part in Obama's small community business lending program?0Arron2012-09-10 03:03:03
Bank executives say their customers do not want loans , even at low interest rates , because the sluggish economy has chilled expansion plans . Some say the federal money is not worth it because they fear it will come with too much regulatory oversight . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus " We made a strategic decision not to have our primary regulator , the government , also be a partner in our bank," said William Chase Jr. , CEO of Triumph Bank in Memphis . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Chase said the bank already has enough capital to meet the demand for small loans . " Our business customers are mired in uncertainty and are reluctant to invest in their businesses," Chase said . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus
