I want to get rid of almost $ 40k in student loans . But say I feel anxious and overwhelmed is an understatement. It seems to take me forever to get the debt paid. Moreover , still rent a room and I'm in my 30s to mid ! no children yet. I do a little more than minimum wage and finance my car. I'm thinking about graduate school , only to increase revenue, but spending is frightening . Not having my own home is stressful . I'm losing my youth , and I 'm not even indulging in anything . Not that I go on shopping sprees or leaving. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Do you have work experience in the field you want to get a master's degree ? that is, what really earn more if you get that degree at this time ? If you are not working in that field , start looking for a job in it or a related field that will help you along the way. For budgeting tools / advice , check out Mint.com and DaveRamsey.com . Mint links to your online accounts and has charts to show where / how the money is being spent . Make a goal to start putting a certain percentage of each paycheck to an emergency savings fund of $ 1,000 then to the payment of the debt . Without knowing the payments of the interest rate , and monthly balance of your debts , I guess I should focus on paying the car loan first. You can also start preparing for the test required to enter graduate school and research universities .

It is difficult to see how you ever will pay off 40k in student loans with a min wage job . What is your college major and minor ? Can not get a job in one of these fields that have growth potential ? Have you looked at other areas of the country where there are better job opportunities ? MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Many of us with degrees started with minimum wage, entry-level employment . I know I'm doing 15 times more than in my first programming job .

I know what u are saying and what I feel for u. I saw myself in the same situation that causes or a bit more though. i had to declare bankruptcy . was not easy , but it was the best I could have done . You should talk to a debt councilor , but did not take long as I did . i did it on May 9 . but I've been having probems debt for as long as I can remember . do not take as much time as I did. was hard , but it was very helpful . good luck.
