Is med school too late @ 28, relatd to financial future, it is worth it? currently unmarried n debt free?0jaimee2012-11-06 09:06:02
I've recently completed a degree in Psychology Honors, and would have completed, relevant course wrk by end of the year. So I would be applying for the class of 2010, by then I'd be 28 yrs old. I'm focused, determined and clear about my willingness to follow through my dream. But this question is related to the financial future that I might have, in relation to actually having savings, student loans etc. Any advice would be much appreciated.[View Answers]

1040 education credits Form 8863?0Luuka2012-11-06 08:22:35
I am claiming my fiance as a dependent. She is currently in college and has loans taken out in her name. She lives with me and has for a year and a half and is a full time college student with an unpaid internship. I was wondering if there was any way of claiming any of her school loans or anything having to do with her being in college on my tax return because she is my dependent. Thanks![View Answers]
What's your response to posters like "Nerdy" who claim to receive need-based funding from the government, when?0missi2012-11-06 08:20:43
the conditions they're describing regarding the receipt of said funds are entirely fabricated and not based in reality? Here's some reality for you: Any Grant funding which is distributed to a student can ONLY go to pay for room, board and tuition. The maximum award for a PELL grant is $5,550, which is far less than the total cost of room, board and tuition at a four year college. The ONLY way that money can be disbursed by a college Bursar to a student is if that student has borrowed more in funds on a student loan than is required to cover the bill from the college. Amounts related to Grant funding are applied to the balance first and if there were a situation where a college's tuition was so low that there was an overage based on the PELL grant amount then the school would be legally required to return the overage to the government and to inform that student that they are eligible for work study if they need money for personal costs.[View Answers]
African Americans and obtaining home loan.?0Happy Labor Day!!!!2012-11-06 08:14:51
A co-worker of mine stated she used to work for a bank a few years ago and saw how african americans were often discriminated against. She stated African Americans customers were always given higher interest rate as well as given a hard time for obtaining a mortgage. I went through a similar situation last year. There were 2 items on my credit report that I paid off 4 years ago and since then my credit has been good. I applied for a home loan and was told by the loan officer I was fine and she would run it by her supervisor. The next day, she called me and stated that her supervisor said I was disapproved. I asked her why and she said the bank wanted to see a longer period of time of on time payments. Honestly, I don't believe it. I have been on my job for 8 years and have no other major debt other than students which are paid on time. Are there any other options for me because I have worked hard to clean up my credit (clean for 4 years now) and I still can't get a home loan.[View Answers]

Can I afford my rent and if so how?0rikita2012-11-06 06:29:00
I am a college student and I don't really want a roommate but I am scared that I am cutting it close when it comes to pay my rent and bills on time.. I make approx. $1,200 a month and go to college full-time. I have a loan for $2,500 in the fall and $2,500 in the spring which I can put towards my rent. My expenses each month are around $700 on average (before rent) which means I will be able to save around $400-500 a month. Do you think I can do it? What are your calculations? By the way, I can't have a roommate because I have a studio and I like living alone. Thank you in advance![View Answers]
Can you go back to school with a student loan?0ran2012-11-06 06:12:53
I have been out of college since 1996 and have been working two years now. I had received a student loan which is now in collections. It was a stafford loan I believe. I am currently paying on it through my job which means about 50 bucks comes out each time I get paid which is weekly. Secondly for the past two tax return, the government has taken both to go toward the loan. As things stands, I will probably not get this years return either as it will go towards the balance. I have spoken to them and was told that each time they took my returns it only went toward the interest. The original loan amount was for 4,000 and the balance is now somewhere close to 10,000. I would love to go back to school now as I am older and wiser than I was then and I now know what I would like to study. I am not sure what direction to take and if I would be allowed to go back to school and receive a grant to do so, do anyone have any suggestions at all? I will appreciate any thoughts or opinions on the matter. Thanks in advance![View Answers]
Should I work or take out a student loan?0hg19852012-11-06 05:58:18
I'm currently a junior in college and want to have a career in healthcare in the future. I plan on applying to the medical, p.a., and pharmacy schools in my area when I get my B.S. in Biology. The problem is that my overall g.p.a (3.0) and science g.p.a. (2.5) are considered terrible to admission boards and I have no significant extracurriculars, volunteering or shadowing hours to make up for my g.p.a b/c I always work part-time during the school yr. and full-time during the summer. Being unemployed isn't an option for me because the Stafford loans I currently get don't cover all my expenses (bills, rent, food). Also, my parents can't help me because they both have extremely low incomes. Basically, my question is should I continue working and hope that the admission boards will take my financial situation into consideration or should I take out a private loan to cover my last 2 years as an undergrad and stop working in order to be able to participate in volunteering, shadowing, etc[View Answers]

Student Loans and Tax Deductions/Credits?0Golkhadi nep2012-11-06 05:44:54
I'm a recently graduated student with lots of loans, 60k+. God bless them, my parents have been unable to help me with any interest to this point. So I'm coming into the end of the year with 5k+ in saved money and need to know if there is a way to pay off my loans to get the best tax deduction and hopefully some tax credits. I've attempted to google this like anyone else, but have found almost entirely credits and deductions about current students and not grads.[View Answers]
I have been doubling my payments on my student loans, but they won't take it on behalf of my principal!?0iya2012-11-06 05:43:18
I called to ask them if there is an option that I'm not seeing to state 'put towards principal only', but they said that wasn't an option, and it would definitely have to go to my interest as well, even though I'm paying double! It's edfinancial.. what do you guys think?![View Answers]

Interest on college loan?0samiam2012-11-06 05:32:15
so my friend recently got into UCI and USC, and is planning to attend USC. I was like isn't that super expensive? and he replied by saying who cares? i'll pay it back in 30 years. this didn't make much sense to me because i know that loans can be paid over a period of 30 years, but isn't there interest that grows on the loan or something? Could someone please explain the concept of student loans and interest please?? and why my friend is wrong in his carelessness and thinking? he's average income, not filthy rich[View Answers]

I'm getting a pell grant for college, but I also want to take out a student loan?0Naomi-Eliana2012-11-06 05:03:59
I'm considering doing this because I need to get settled in financially. I don't want to be worried about living expenses while going to school. I am also very committed to finishing school so that won't be a problem. I'm thinking the most I'll want is anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000. My Pell Grant is basically covering my entire school year since I'm in community college and it's not very expensive, but I am uncertain if the student loan will goo directly to my checking account or how does that work? I would like to use the money on whatever I like, is that possible?[View Answers]
