How do most people pay for college?0cohester2012-11-06 03:11:10
I dont think i really understand how most people pay for college. especially those who attend out of state and private universities. right now i go to a school and pay 10,700 a year. so far i do okay with financial aid, parent support and a part time job. now im looking to transfer to schools price ranging from 24,000 to 17,000 a year. financial aid increases a little bit and i have the possibility of getting some scholarships from those schools but it still leaves a big hole to cover. ill prolly be okay in attending these schools but it might beg the possibility of needing additional government loans or private ones. this seems strange to me because both the schools are in-state public institutions and my family's not extremely poor. i hear most people say they used private loans for really expensive private institutions or grad school. Ive read the average debt of graduating students is about 20,000 and that seems like a lot because i might get up about there and i have tried to be very fiscally careful with my education. certainly more then most other students i know. so how do most people pay for college? how does the average student not ones with full rides or rich parents. the majority of schools in the country are more expensive to attend then the ones ive attended/applied too. so what have you seen, heard or know people paying for their school?[View Answers]

A Student Loan to be An Actress. Should I keep a baby?0Karry2012-11-06 00:31:54
If you have a student loan as an actor would you abort a baby? I am 30,000$ In debt from a private acting school. It is 2 years long and i will be finished the school in September 2011. If I am pregnant... I don't know how I could support a baby and still focus on my career/ pay off my student loan. I know it is not IMPOSSIBLE but If and when I do have a child I don't want it to grow up without support. I do have a supportive and wonderful man but.. he already has a child with his ex-fbuddy/best friend coming in about 5 months and is working two jobs to help her pay for the baby's needs. :/ So i don't want to tell him yet until I know and decide what I would do if i were pregnant. Could I possibly do it on my own and still have a chance at my dreams of being a working actor? (meaning pay back student loan, pay for a baby, try to find a good paying job in ?) :([View Answers]
Where can I find additional financial aid?0unknown642012-11-06 00:00:53
I have exhausted all of my resources and am still about 4000 short for college. If i can get past this year I will be able to get a degree. Every private student loan i've applied for i've been denied because I know noone with good credit. My family has always been poor and not to intelligent, now here I am, the only one to even graduate high school, let alone with honors and I can't afford to go to college. All I want to do is make a better life for myself. Does anyone know where I would be able to get a loan for college (about 4000). My only problem is I have 0 credit so I never pass credit checks either. Please Help![View Answers]

Defaulted or Deferment?0Somebody2012-11-05 22:28:45
Sadly, my situation is this: from 2003 - 2006 I attended and earned over 80 credits from a private college. In late 2006 I had a medical emergency in my immediate family and did a sudden and hasty shift to a community college. Because of the sudden shift I did poorly in the 1st semester there. I've been out of college since mid-2007. I got a job in summer of 2007 and that ended in late 2008. I really need and want to go back to college ASAP. Since I was out for over 6 months, I tried to pay the amount via student loans the best I could. Now that I activated a deferment (however long that is allowed to last? plus I am unemployed as of Dec. '08) I am wondering when can I go back and attend college without having this dark cloud over my financial aid and head. Do I have to clear anything up and or do anything beforehand?[View Answers]

Interest Rates on Student Loans?0London2012-11-05 19:25:45
Hi, everyone. I have specific Qs about student loans for people who have experience in paying back or dealing with student loans. First of all, I am a recent college graduate and I will have to start paying back my student loans in 6 months after grace period ends. Today, I looked at the interest rates of all my loans. And they all have interest rates around 6.5%. All my loans are Federal Direct Stafford Subsidized Loans. Until I checked today (I should have checked it sonner), I expected the interest rate to be around 3-4%. 1. Is my interest rate too high compared to other students? 2. Is there any way to reduce the rate through Fed. Gov. before I start paying back the loan? 3. I get so many calls from bunch of private loan companies saying they will get me the lowest interest rate possible. Should I use one of them as a last resort? Thanks in advance for any insights.[View Answers]
Sallie Mae private loan not federally backed, can I file for BK?0JUNIOR C2012-11-05 15:14:58
Hello. Please don't call me a deadbeat or anything. I am in financial hardship along with half of the world. I have a Sallie Mae student loan that is not federally backed. Went to a stupid tech school back in 2003. I sent them a forbarence agreement about 4 months ago. Well apparently they never got it along with my address change. So they sent it to collections. My question is, can I file this in BK since technically its a private student loan? I tried to call to make payment arrangements but since I can only pay $100 a month they wont have that. Thanks![View Answers]
Is this my credit score?0sarthak2012-11-05 13:54:48
I just applied for a school loan through pnc with a cosigner. After i applied, PNC has emailed me with a document attached about my credit score. Is this score mine? or is it my cosigner's? or mixed? The document only had my name in the title and never mentioned my cosigner. I'm a student and this is my first private school loan. Last year i received some subsidized and unsubsidized loan through the school. I aslo have a credit card but i'm not sure how that works. My dad, my siblings and I have credit cards with the same credit card number and my dad pays for it all. and each of our cards has our own names on it. with all that, is it possible the the document with the credit score is mine? i looked it up and the score is in a good range.[View Answers]

Medicare Eligibility ?0umair2012-11-05 11:47:26
I have a quick, but somewhat shameful question. I am a college student who lives with my parents and pays ALL of my own expenses: Everything you can think of minus health insurance. I am going to get booted from their coverage. I might have to go without insurance since a private plan is to expensive, even through the school. Extra school loans seem silly and not necessary. I was thinking of applying for medicare. However, my parents have forced me to keep doing my taxes as a dependent. It seems from my research that if I apply the state will not only want to know my income (10K a year), but also my parents income and assets. I know for sure they are over the asset limit. Am I wrong in my understanding of this? THanks[View Answers]
Do I have to start paying back my student loan when I transfer schools but have a 9 month break?0jaja2012-11-05 10:40:59
I am in graduate school and have never had student loans before. I have been attending a private university and already have 20K in loans in a nine month time period. I withdrew and am planning on attending a public university part time in the spring and full time next fall. The lender may ask for about 5K back since I only attended half of the current 6 month school period, but I don't have the money. Any ideas what to do in my predicament?[View Answers]
