How can one get rid of a student loan other than consolidation? Is there any way to negotiate a low payoff?0mashmoum2012-11-05 22:11:42
I hear that usually the lenders do not allow any renegotiation for a lower amount (other than the interest). And you cannot file bankruptcy due to the laws regarding student loans. Is there any other way out? Thanks to all who has any suggestions.[View Answers]
Does anyone know anything about Educational Direct?0michal2012-11-05 16:56:02
I keep getting calls from this place. They are rather pushy to get me to fill out an application. I dont even know if this place is legit, because I believe Student Loan Consolidation Program is the most legit place there is. Is there a way I can get them to stop calling without talking to them? I dont really want to pay for a service just for one number.[View Answers]

Does anyone know the penalties of defaulting on a student loan?0Earnest2012-11-04 20:17:06
I was wondering if anyone knew what the penalties were of defaulting on a student loan. My loans have changed hands so many times and I've tried consolidation and all that seems to do is get me in more hot water. The other day I was sent a letter stating that I was about to default on a loan and that I would be subject to litigation. How much jail/prison time is involved? I've gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. I mean suing someone for not having money is stupid, but our justice system lets it happen all the time.[View Answers]
Loan consolidation?0Fayth2012-11-04 16:41:24
I have a lot of loans and credit card debt that I have to pay separately each month. The payments range from $40 a month to $80 a month. I have the following loans/credit card debt: - Student Loan A = $2000, $40 payment each month - Student Loan B = $4000, $0 payment each month - Car Loan = $3000, $80 payment each month - Credit Card A = $1100, $60 payment each month (max. = $1500) - Credit Card B = $650, $60 payment each month (max. = $750) * It totals about $11000 in total debt I need to pay off. I want to get a loan for about $12000 somewhere and pay all my loans off immediately and just pay the one payment a month. I'd try to pay this loan off in 6 months, hoping the new job I'm getting pays well enough. I'd also cancel one of the credit cards once they are paid off. Will this hurt my credit, or will it eventually make it better if I make all my payments on time? Also, is this possible?[View Answers]

How can I get out of debt with Court fines/fees and student loans?0TYRONN2012-11-04 04:31:39
I am currently about 9,000 dollars in debt from student loans (in deferment while I am in school). Because of a ridiculous non violent arrest I now have close to 3,000 to 4,000 in court fines and fees and may not be eligible for addition school loans for 2 years. This means my loans will need to start being paid off while I am not in school. Because this arrest was made public knowledge to my employer I have lost my full time job before these particular charges will eventually be dismissed (they will be dismissed by August of 2010). It's possible to regain my job but we're talking 3-6 months from now. I am also 2 months pregnant and on almost every possible assistance program available in Arizona. Since losing my job I have had to move out of my apartment (breaking the lease will cost an additional 700 dollars with no chance of getting my deposit back). What are my options? Is there a debt consolidation that includes court fines and fees? I have a part time job giving me 8-16 hours a week which is basically paying for gas and misc small expenses. I currently have 8 dollars in my bank account, any help would be appreciated. ARIZONA RESIDENTS ONLY. I don't need to know how laws in other states work.[View Answers]

I dont kno wat to do now, i am stressed out so much from this loan thing and basically i am all alone here. I cant focus in anything, nothing excites me anymore...I lost 1 year of university, well that i can cover it up as i dont have much left to graduate. I just wish that somebody would burrow me some money so that i can pay all the scattered loans and pay that big amount slowly (ofcourse i know thats a wish which remains to only a wish ). But please if anyone has any idea where to get some big loans (talking about 10000 euro) so that i can pay slowly around 100 - 300 euros evry month or any other ideas which would work for me, please help. I am starting to worry more with each passing day. Everyone please just see and think wat u can do/suggest to get rid out of this situation, PLEASE. Thanx in advance.[View Answers]
Balance Transfer Credit Cards for Fair/Poor Credit....0LeXi<32012-11-03 04:54:35
I have about 3,000 in debt from credit cards and medical bills and and each card has a high APR and interest rates. I've been ha ving trouble making on time payments. I was thinking about transferring all the debt into one card so I can make one large monthly payment without so much interest. Is this a good idea. What is a good card or company to go with or should I talk to those debt consolidation people. I had my time of plastic crazy and want to get my credit rating back to were it was. I also have student loans to apply for soon and was going to start paying the interest on those right away to save money in the long run. What should I do? Thanks so much! [View Answers]
We are going to go through a debt settlement company - any one else done this?0shaquita2012-11-03 04:09:48
My husband and I are both 29 years old. We actually own 2 houses (one is a rental) and have never been late on a payment for anything in our lives (well husband has but that was a LONG time ago). We have accrued $40,000 in cc debt. It was completely our fault and I don't blame anyone but ourselves. We have been struggling with maxed out credit cards for the past 3 years and struggle to make minimum payments. We recently had some medical issues and can no longer pay our credit cards. Before the medical stuff we were paying the minimum just to end up charging gas and groceries. We don't plan to move or sell our house anytime soon - we have no major purchases planned, we are current on our student loans and both have jobs (though not high paying jobs). Is it a bad idea in our situation to use a debt settlement company?? I honestly don't see any other option. We tried to get a consolidation loan but don't qualify and have 0 equity in our homes. Please don't criticize - we already feel so guilty and terrible. We were young and dumb but I KNOW if we could get out of cc debt we would NEVER get in that situation again.[View Answers]
Credit experts, lenders, mortgage underwriters?0Medy2012-11-02 16:16:16
I have a very average credit score, 689 I believe. I have some negative history on my credit report. My wife passed away in 2003. In 2005 I had a stroke and was hospitalized for a long period of time, became severely depressed and was in rehab for several months. . While I was still in rehab I wasn't sure if I would ever work, and actually applied for SS disability. When it came down to finally ruling on the disability I elected not to go thru with that as I was getting better and felt I could return to work. Unfortunately I let my concern about paying off my credit card accounts get the best of me and I utilized a well advertised credit service to settle my accounts. Some I paid off in full but I have some charge offs on my credit report. I am a self employed medical professional. I have a contract with a local hospital and my gross income is around $340K annually. I have an outstanding loan for a vehicle and some small student loans for my oldest daughters college education. I have no current mortgage, as I recent sold the house I own in another city. Will paying the charge offs now help my credit report and score? I have also noticed on my credit report hat I have some open accounts that I no longer use, tho the balance is zero on them. Should I close these accounts? Also since I am self employed my credit report shows no history of employment since 2003. How do I deal with that? Will this negative history be of less significance after 7 years, as with bankruptcy? Be very wary of credit "counseling" or credit consolidation services. I was NEVER told that this would reflect negatively on my credit history. I should have spent the money that I gave to them to pay off my bills. Now I'm suffering for it.[View Answers]

Upon completion of college, I will owe in access of $40,000 (should have chosen a cheaper University). Besides hoping for a well paying job, any tips on how to pay off the loans in a 3 year time period? I want to go to grad school but I am willing to stop after my bachelors to pay these loans down first. From my colleagues, I have been hearing that consolidation is a ripoff. [View Answers]

They also want to hold 5K store until he can find work . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus He wants to know if he went to a debt consolidation company , would they be able to reduce the total amount of credit cards / lines of credit / overdraft in the amount you can afford to friends and reduction of total debt ? MedlinePlus MedlinePlus What usually cost ? ( I told him about 2% of total debt . ) Your credit score is around 620 ( so no big ) . What kind of impact would be in ? How long should I keep personal paper records on file?0lacey2012-10-27 13:13:27
I have a bunch of old papers in my files , and I wondered how much they really should have. My files include : credit card bills , coals checks , tax returns , student loan agreements ( before and after consolidation ) , old bills , insurance and medical paperwork , leases , receipts , etc. Basically I maintained throughout . Does anyone know how long should I follow any of these types of products ? I think I heard three or seven years , but I can not remember any details about those suggestions .
