How long will it take for me to receive my grant and loan refund check from college?1Catie2012-10-25 14:36:03
I'm going to Lorain County Community College and classes started 8/23/10 . Your saying my loans and grants were dispersed in my 9/20/10 . So I'll be getting my check as soon as you arrive via mail or there is another step in the process . I only ask because I really need to buy a laptop and if I put in a credit card definitely want you to know that I will have the money to cover it !
What's up with University of Phoenix? It seems they really don't care about their students, whats your input?0Jordyn2012-09-23 01:00:03
This is what I found: MedlinePlus Shortly after Arne Duncan is officially sworn in as the new U.S. Secretary of Education, must make a real and immediate break with the past by opening an investigation into allegations that the University of Phoenix (UOP), the country's largest chain of for-profit universities, has been deliberately and wrongly treated to manipulate their cohort default rate and, in doing so, put students in danger. MedlinePlus The allegations came to light last week, when details of a federal lawsuit filed in December by three former students of University of Phoenix became public. According to the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court in Little Rock, Arkansas, the University has been paying federal loans for students who leave soon after registering without her "knowledge or consent." The institution then allegedly turned around and demanded the immediate return of the alumni of the tuition due. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus These practices, which appear to violate the Higher Education Act, harm students by denying them more generous payment terms of loans offered by the federal government. The University of Phoenix "deprives students of the benefits of the terms in which they borrowed money (ie, low interest rates and grace period of six months to start paying) and saddles them a debt immediately and conditions payment that were not accepted by the student by contract or otherwise, "the lawsuit said. "The unsuspecting students are routinely bombarded with calls, letters and emails from UOP to charge tuition over the threats that the refusal to pay, will be referred to collection agencies and negative reports on your credit." MedlinePlus MedlinePlus The university is engaged in these practices, the suit says, to "artificially deflate" their cohort default rates, ensuring that students leave their programs can not pay their federal student loans. This supposedly helps the institution remain below the threshold at which it would face federal sanctions, including the possible loss of federal financial aid (minor penalties include a school requirement to delay for 30 days the release of federal funds student loan borrowers for the first time and a permanent loss of eligibility to participate in the "school as lender", which has been heavily involved college). Numerous studies have shown that student loan borrowers who drop out of college are at a much greater risk of defaulting on its debt to those who complete their programs. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus While only three former students had the class action, the plaintiffs believe that "there are thousands of borrowers" who have been treated similarly by the university. And these practices do not appear to be isolated at the University of Phoenix. In May, the Department of Education's Inspector General recommended punitive action against another private institution, the New York Institute, based Career Tech, for engaging in almost identical. In a report last week on the case UOP, The Chronicle of Higher Education noted that "other for-profit universities follow similar policies ROI." MedlinePlus MedlinePlus One of the first things you should do in your new job Duncan is calling for an immediate investigation into the allegations against the University of Phoenix, and further investigation to determine whether the practices alleged in this case are widespread in the for- higher profit education sector. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus For too long, the Department of Education under the Bush administration looked the other way while the charges of irregularities and wrongdoing have occurred profit our nation's colleges and trade schools. Students from low-income and working class have suffered as a result of negligence. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Hopefully the Obama administration will put students' interests before those of wealthy business lobbyists school. That would be - dare we say - is change we can believe MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Also if you have positive comments about the UOP that companies hired? Thank you.

I know two ppl who took classes online and now both are working in call centers . Does the University of Phoenix , if you really produce results or is it typical to get into debt (loans from financial aid) and still end up in a job and a career? Anyone here ever graduated from there or know someone who has done and the degree helped them get a career? Do you have a title not to say anything to employers? Would it be a waste of my time?

I received my federal tax refund but not my state. Will I receive the economic stimulus check?0sasjah2012-11-03 15:30:00
As I opened the envelope hoping to go and cash in my lovely state tax check I noticed no check but just a lovely white piece of paper and it print it read that my state tax check had been applied to my student loans. My loans shouldn't be in defult being that I am just about to graduate. I thought my federal tax check was going to be applied to my loans as well but I received that check today. I don't understand but I am not going to fight it because 1) I need to pay my student loans anyway and 2) I love my fat tax check. So, what I want to know is: Will my economic stimulus payment check come to me or be applied to my student loans
